Hot Springs

Visit two of the reasons Steamboat Springs is famous. Old Town Hot Springs is located in the heart of downtown Steamboat Springs and is a multi-use complex. It boasts eight natural mineral water hot pools, two water slides, a fitness center, an aquatic rock climbing wall, a kid’s area, and much more to keep the whole family busy and engaged. Strawberry Park Hot Springs is located on the edge of the Yampa Valley and features thermal pools that range in temperature from 101-106 degrees Fahrenheit.

Water Sports

Pack up the family and head to one of the three Colorado state parks with lakes that surround the Steamboat Springs area. Enjoy a myriad of water activities including fishing, boating, rafting, canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Surrounded by Colorado’s beautiful mountain terrain, you can take a break from the water and enjoy a picnic while you soak up the beauty all around you.

Rotary Park Boardwalk

While the boardwalk attracts people to its easy access to the wetlands along the Yampa River, it also attracts wildlife. Gather the family and hike the trails and boardwalk area for as long as you like, year-round, for free. The planned area features signboards along the way, filling you in about local plant and animal life. Keep a lookout for moose, bear, elk, deer, and others wandering the land with you. Look up for a glimpse of bald eagles, osprey, magpie, and many more. Take a break and enjoy a meal at the BBQ and picnic areas along the path and review the breathtaking photos you’ve captured of wildlife in their natural habitat. If the family dog made the trip, bring them along to the boardwalk, but make sure your furry friend is leashed at all times, and keep in mind the wildlife may shy away from your animal or act aggressively.

Saddleback Ranch

If you’d rather leave the hike to someone else, gather the family and book an experience with Saddleback Ranch in Steamboat Springs. Enjoy a 1-2 hour experience over the hills and through the trees and mountain scenery of Saddleback Ranch. Bring your camera for breathtaking views of the Flattops, Sleeping Giant, and Mt. Werner. When you reserve online you can opt to be picked up at the Mt. Werner Transit Center. There are no reservations and it’s first-come, first-served if you choose to drive yourself to the ranch. Ask about age restrictions before booking.

Hot Air Balloon Ride

For a different view of the area, head up, up, and away in a hot air balloon. Due to wind and weather conditions, the family will have to rise early, as flights take place only in the early morning. Enjoy a continental breakfast, and a champagne toast, and everyone will receive a flight certificate to commemorate the ride. Ask about the group, senior, military, and child discount rates when booking. Keep in mind flights may be canceled due to weather or other safety reasons.

Tread of Pioneers Museum

Sneak in some fun learning for everyone. Take a break from outdoor activities and learn about Steamboat Springs and its roots. The heart of the museum is located in a beautiful 1901 Queen Anne-style Victorian home that features turn-of-the-century furnishings. Enjoy interactive exhibits featuring local and regional Native American history, skiing, agriculture, mining, pioneer settlement, town development, and more. Kids can enjoy kid-friendly activities and exhibits.
