The Tread of Pioneers Museum is located at 800 Oak Street in Steamboat Springs and is open to the public from Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 am until 5:00 pm. A visit to the Tread of Pioneers Museum is an opportunity for visitors to discover a variety of interactive and engaging exhibits on-site that feature both the local history as well as the regional past pertaining to Native Americans who called the land home long before settlers arrived. Exhibits also highlight area activities that have long defined Steamboat Springs such as skiing, agriculture, mining, and more.

Some of the fan-favorite exhibits to check out when you drop by include the 1901 Queen Anne-inspired Victorian home that comes complete with turn-of-the-century furnishings throughout to admire. Guests will also enjoy the Our Western Heritage exhibit which takes guests back in time to learn more about the area’s agricultural history and highlights outlaws like Harry Tracy. There’s also a vast firearm collection that’s part of this display.

In addition to checking out the thrilling exhibits and displays, guests can spend some time in the oral history library or exploring the past utilizing the local history research center on-site. There’s an intriguing online historic photograph collection to browse as well. The Treat of Pioneers Museum’s mission is to collect, preserve, exhibit, and share the heritage and history of Steamboat Springs with locals and visitors alike! When you’re looking to expand the fun, feel free to join the behind-the-scenes museum tour at no cost when it’s offered at 12:00 pm and 3:30 pm on Tuesdays, noon on Thursdays, and 3:30 pm on Fridays. Guests can enjoy time at this Steamboat Springs museum for $6 for adults and $2 for kids ages 6 to 12. Those 5 and under can explore for free. Don’t forget to stop by the gift shop before you leave!
