Steamboat Springs is one of those places that you could spend a month and it would still not be long enough. We love to take in the natural beauty in the summer and the fresh powder in the winter. Traveling to Steamboat Springs can be hard, so here is our guide on travel tips to visit Steamboat Springs.
Denver Airport
There are a couple of different options to get there, but the most economical is flying into Denver and renting a car. The drive from Denver to Steamboat is about 3.5 to 4 hours depending on traffic and weather. If it is snowing, then there is one tough section called Rabbit Ears Pass and that’s about 30 minutes outside of Steamboat. Definitely try and make it through there before dark because it’ll get a little difficult to drive, especially if you aren’t used to those conditions. Try to get through this part of the drive before the sun sets to make sure you drive isn’t overly difficult.
Hayden Airport
Besides flying into Denver and driving in, you can also fly directly to Steamboat via the Hayden Airport which is only about 30-45 minutes from Steamboat. This is the most convenient option as there are many shared and private transportation options from there. If you don’t want to worry about renting a car and driving through a moderately difficult pass, then this is the best option for you. Since Hayden Airport is right next to Steamboat Springs, you can schedule a private car service or shuttle to get around town and take in the sights. One you’re in town, you can enjoy our courtesy property shuttle to take you anywhere in the mountain or downtown area (winter stays only).
