No getaway to Steamboat Springs is complete without a visit to the hot springs that gave the town its name. The multi-use complex of Old Town Hot Springs is located in the heart of downtown Steamboat Springs. Enjoy eight natural mineral water hot pools, two water slides, a fitness center, an aquatic rock-climbing wall, a kid’s area, and more. Strawberry Park Hot Springs is located on the edge of the Yampa Valley and features thermal pools ranging in temperature from 101-106 degrees Fahrenheit. Only cash will be accepted for entry fees at Strawberry Park. No credit or debit cards.
Saddle up and let someone else show you around when you book an experience with Saddleback Ranch. Enjoy an experience over the hills and through the trees and mountain scenery of Saddleback Ranch by enjoying a horseback ride. For added adventure, book a horse drawn wagon or horseback dinner excursion. You’ll see the Flattops, Sleeping Giant, Mt. Werner, and many other Steamboat Springs breathtaking landmarks on your journey. When you reserve online, you can opt to be picked up at the Mt. Werner Transit Center. There are no reservations and it’s first-come, first-served if you choose to drive yourself.
Get out and stretch your legs and enjoy the natural surroundings of Steamboat Springs. Known as “Bike Town, USA” Steamboat Springs offers plenty of biking opportunities. Locals bike for exercise, to experience the beauty of the area, and even bike to work! With all the biking culture in Steamboat Springs, it’s no surprise that there are plenty of opportunities for all types of biking, including downhill biking, cross country routes, road biking, cruising, gravel biking, and more. Test your skills at the jump park with various hills and ramps for riders from beginner and intermediate to advanced dirt bikers. Come back in the winter for a “fat tire” snow biking experience.
The golfers of the group will want to make their clubs part of the packing list this Memorial Day. The Steamboat Springs area boasts three nearby golf courses where you’ll share the course with wildlife like elk, eagles, or blue herons. Steamboat Golf Club is a nine-hole course perfect for a quick game or choose one of the more challenging courses like Rollingstone Golf Club or Haymaker Golf Course If your clubs didn’t make the packing list, ask about a rental set when booking your tee time.
Hot Air Balloon Ride
For a different view of the area, take to the skies in a hot air balloon with Wildwest Balloon Adventures. Due to wind and weather conditions, flights only take place in the early morning. Included in the experience are a continental breakfast, champagne toast, and flight certificate to commemorate the ride for each person. Ask about the group, senior, military, and child discount rates when booking. Flights may be canceled due to weather or other safety risks.
Tread of Pioneers Museum
While the mountains, springs, and trails will keep you outdoors for hours during your Steamboat Springs respite, there is indoor fun to be had, too. Learn about Steamboat Springs and its roots. The heart of the museum is a 1901 Queen Anne-style Victorian home featuring turn-of-the-century furnishings. Explore interactive exhibits of local and regional Native American history, skiing, agriculture, mining, pioneer settlement, town development, and more.
Make sure your bathing suits and sun gear make the packing list. You’ll want to head to one of the three Colorado state parks with lakes that surround the Steamboat Springs area. Enjoy a myriad of water activities including fishing, boating, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Surrounded by Colorado’s beautiful mountain terrain, you can take a break from the water and enjoy a picnic on the shore.
