Moots Factory Tours In Steamboat Springs

Moots is a premium bike shop on 2545 Copper Ridge Drive in downtown Steamboat Springs. The bike shop dates back to 1981 and has since grown to become one of the city’s best spots for top-notch bikes. The shop consists of passionate cyclists keen on building high-quality bikes using high-grade materials, delivering excellent riding equipment with versatility, stability, and lifetime durability.

What’s the Inspiration Behind the Name?

The Moots’ logo features an alligator named Mr. Moots, which dates back to the founder’s days in grade school. Back then, his most-cherished pencil-top eraser had a smiling gator character that he kept close by throughout his schooling journey. One day, he squeezed the little alligator, and to his delightful surprise, out came a tiny cry of “Moots, Moots, Moots.” Mr. Moots then became an intricate part of his outdoor escapades, featuring in several drawn and handwritten comical strips of his skiing, hiking, and cycling adventures. Three decades ago, the name Moots was his first choice for naming his first custom-built bikes, and the name stuck.

What to Expect on a Moot Factory Tour

Following 2020’s lockdown, Moots shut its doors according to government directives on safety. After weathering the storms of the pandemic, Moots decided to open its doors to the public, allowing you to explore what goes into making a Moots bike. Each tour lasts roughly an hour, offering unique insights into the bike-making process from beginning to end and where Moots sources materials. You’ll also meet up with the brilliant minds behind Moots and learn more about the artistry that goes into each bike. The excursion ends at the showroom, where you’ll get a close-up of the finished products and other soft goods for sale. Moots offers two weekly at 10 AM, one on Mondays and another on Fridays.

What Kind of Bikes Does Moots Make?

Moots manufactures four bike types – road, gravel, mountain, and e-bikes.

Road Bikes

Moots road bikes blend performance, endurance, and stability, offering seamless biking experiences for different conditions. Whether you prefer gravel roads, deep forest trails, or bike races, Moots road models have unique features to elevate your ride. Discover several options, including the Routt RSL, Routt CRD, the Routt 45, the Routt YBB, and the Route ESC.

Gravel Bikes

Conquer gravel with Moots’ iconic high-end gravel bikes. The Mountaineer features modern geometry and iconic micro-suspension, making it the perfect choice for back-road gravel routes, single-track, or XC trails. The Womble is an excellent choice for cross-country biking, offering ample ground clearance, while the Womble Slider features single-speeding for simpler peddling.

Mountain Bikes

Moots mountain bike section features most of the same bikes as the gravel section, except for the Forager, specifically designed to tackle hard-packed snow and fresh powder. The Forager features the current standards for fat bikes, with large diameter tubes that create a strong and stiff package for cold surfaces and bike packing.

E-Bikes

The Moots Express electric bike combines power and range, allowing you to conquer massive elevation gains and extensive trails. The bike features a pedal assist rolled up in a combined chassis, giving class 3 status. The Moot Express has a state-of-the-art drive unit with a 504-watt-hour battery, offering enough peddle assist to reach up to 28 miles per hour.
